World Cup Football

On 21 May 1904, the Federation International Football Association (FIFA) was founded in Paris by representatives of seven countries, Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. On 28 May 1928, the FIFA Congress in Amsterdam decided to stage a world championship of football and Uruguay was finally chosen as the host country in 1929. The original world cup trophy before Frenchman Jules Rimet’s name since he proposed the tournament. In 1970, the trophy was awarded to Brazil permanently when it became the first country to win the world cup thrice and a new trophy called the ‘FIFA World Cup’ was put up for competition. The tournament was not held for twelve years during the Second World War. Though the tournament was held alternately in Europe and America since 1958, It broke new ground when it was held in Japan and Korea in 2002. Since 1930, only 8 teams have been able to win the trophy.
