Vedic Civilization

        Historical Era is begins with coming of Aryan’s. Indus Valley Civilization is Prehistoric Age or Era.

Vedic Civilization is Late Bronze Age and early Iran Age whereas Indus Valley Civilization is Bronze Age.

Vedic Civilization is Rural Civilization whereas Indus Valley Civilization is Urban Civilization. Aryan’s in early Vedic period are settled at Saptha Sindhu region. And Aryan’s in later Vedic period are settled at Ganga region. People in Indus Valley Civilization settled at Indus River region.

Vedic Civilization time period is from 1500 BC to 600 BC. Rug Veda period is from 1500 BC to 900 BC. Other Veda’s period is from 900 BC to 600 BC

Marriage system is eight types in later Vedic Period. One of the eight is Ghandarva marriage is also called love marriage.

Vedic Literature: About eight types. These are written between 1500 BC and 600 BC

1) Vedas 2) Brahmanas 3) Aranyakas 4) Upanishads 5) Vedanga 6) Mahapuranas 7) Upaveda 8) Epics

Vedas: These are four types1) Rig Veda 2) Yajur Veda 3) Sama Veda 4) Atharva Veda

Rig Veda: It is first book in Vedic Period which is written between 1500 BC and 900 BC. It has 10 chapters and 1020 hymns. One of the hymns is Gayatri Mantra which is also called Savitri Mantra.

Yajur Veda: Fire (Yajna) rituals. It has sacrificial formulae.

Sama Veda: Sama = Song, Veda = Knowledge. Sama Veda is Melodies and Chants.

Atharva Veda: Atharva Veda is the knowledge of storehouse of atharvanas. It is sometimes called the “Veda of magical formulas”. It is not a part of Vedatrayi.

Brahmanas: These are 7

Aranyakas: The Aranyakas constutures the philosophy behind ritual sacrifice of the ancient Hindu sacred tests, the Vedas

Upanishads: These are about 108

Vedanga: These are six 1) Shiksh 2) Chandas 3) Vyakarana 4) Nirkta 5) Kalpa 6) Jyotisha

Mahapuranas: These are 18

Upaveda: These are four 1) Ayurveda (deals in Medicine & associated with the Rig Veda) 2) Dhanurveda (deals in Archary & associated with the Yajurveda) 3) Gandharvaveda (deals with Music and Dance & associated with the Sama Veda) 4) Shastrashastra (deals with Military Technology & associated with Atharvaveda)

Epics: These are two 1) Ramayana 2) Mahabharata (also called Jayasamhita)
